Truck plunges into 20‑m ditch on Vietnam's National Highway 37, two dead

Around 1 a.m. on 27 June, a loaded truck travelling north on National Highway 37 near the village of Cao Đa 1 in Sơn La province fell into a 20‑metre‑deep side ditch. The vehicle was carrying three occupants: two men from Phú Thọ province and an unidentified third passenger. Two of the occupants were killed on site, while the third, a 31‑year‑old man, was rescued and taken to Bắc Yên General Hospital with injuries.

Provincial police and rescue teams, including traffic police, fire‑rescue units and local authorities, were dispatched to the scene. Initial investigations suggest the driver may have left the proper lane and lost control, causing the truck to strike a soft‑shoulder barrier before plunging into the ditch. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Sơn La officials.
