True crime documentaries remain a dominant streaming genre

The true crime genre continues to be a highly profitable and popular segment for streaming platforms in 2026. Recent notable productions include Netflix’s ‘Instinto maternal’, directed by Jessica Dimmock, which reconstructs the case of Taylor Parker in Texas through archival footage and police bodycam recordings.

On HBO Max, ‘Murder in Glitterball City’, directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, explores the 2010 murder of drag artist James ‘Jamie’ Carroll in Louisville, Kentucky.

Other significant titles in the genre spanning recent years include ‘The Mortician’ (2025), ‘The Yogurt Shop Murders’ (2025-2026), and ‘Quiet on Set’ (2024), alongside established classics such as ‘Making a Murderer’, ‘The Jinx’, and ‘Tiger King’.
