True crime productions gain popularity in Argentina
The growing public fascination with true crime is reflected in recent audiovisual productions in Argentina. New films and series are exploring notorious real-life criminal cases, such as those of Ricardo Barreda, who murdered his wife, daughters, and mother-in-law, and Marga Di Tullio, known as ‘Pepita’, who acted in self-defense against a group of criminals.
Luis Machín and Luisana Lopilato portray Barreda and Di Tullio, respectively. While the actors undergo significant characterization to match the roles, the focus remains on their interpretations of these historical figures.
In a different vein, the thriller ‘Whisper Your Name’ starring Robert De Niro has seen significant success on Netflix in Argentina. Based on a novel by Alex North, the film follows a detective investigating a man who kidnapped and murdered children, exploring complex father-child relationships.
