Peru: Electoral sanctions, court hearings, and public works audits

Various legal and administrative developments are occurring across Peru involving electoral oversight and public works.

The Constitutional Court (Tribunal Constitucional) will hold decentralized public hearings at the University of Piura from September 28 to 30 to resolve constitutional processes from the northern region.

In electoral matters, the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Trujillo has fined five regional candidates for providing false information regarding their academic degrees and work experience. In Puno, the JEE excluded Magno Tito Apaza Mamani from running for mayor of Chucuito following a conviction for passive bribery.

Regarding public infrastructure, the Comptroller General (Contraloría) has flagged irregularities in two separate projects. In Puerto Inca, deficiencies were found in the construction of a municipal stadium's perimeter fence, including improper foundation work and the absence of a technical resident. In Veintiséis de Octubre, Piura, the Comptroller warned of irregularities in the reception of road and sidewalk works in the Santa Julia settlement, noting that infrastructure was accepted despite pending tasks and physical defects like cracks.
