Truman Data launches AI-based virtual power plant in Finland

Finnish company Truman Data has launched Energy Coop, an artificial intelligence-based virtual power plant (VPP) designed to aggregate flexibility from buildings, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other manageable loads. The platform allows property owners, funds, and municipalities to participate in the daily and intraday electricity markets of Nord Pool.

By using AI to predict the economic value of available flexibility, the platform can control loads such as heating, ventilation, and electric vehicle charging within client-defined limits. A pilot program involving 70 municipal buildings reportedly reduced electricity costs by 11.4% and increased total benefits to 15.7% of the annual bill. Unlike traditional Battery-as-a-Service models, Truman Data does not own the client's storage systems. The company also offers a BESS-first analysis tool, developed with funding from Business Finland, to help investors calculate potential savings and revenue.
