Trump Accounts launch as tax-advantaged investment tools for children

Trump Accounts, tax-advantaged investment accounts for children, officially launched in July 2026 following the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025. These accounts function similarly to traditional individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and allow investments to grow without annual taxation.

Under a pilot program, children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, may qualify for a one-time $1,000 government seed deposit from the U.S. Treasury. To be eligible for this contribution, the child must be a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security number, and an authorized individual must make the election for them.

While the accounts offer long-term wealth-building potential, they differ from Roth IRAs in that withdrawals are not necessarily tax-free. Specific requirements and instructions for the $1,000 contribution are detailed in the IRS instructions for Form 4547.
