Trump addresses Houthi conflict and Irish unity discussions

During diplomatic engagements, US President Donald Trump and Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin addressed distinct geopolitical issues. In Ireland, Gerry Adams criticized Martin for failing to prioritize Irish unity, a core tenet of the Fianna Fáil party. While Martin has previously resisted planning for constitutional change, he recently suggested that the conditions for a unity referendum, as promised in the Good Friday Agreement, require greater clarity and should not rely solely on the judgment of the British Secretary of State.

Separately, President Trump addressed the conflict on the Arabian Peninsula. Following reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman requested US airstrikes against Houthi rebels, Trump declined to intervene. Trump stated that the Houthis have expressed a desire not to fight the US and are allowing most ships to pass. This refusal to provide military support comes as the Iran-backed Houthi militia continues to expand its control over Yemeni coastal areas and strategic Red Sea shipping routes, creating a significant security crisis for Saudi Arabia.
