Trump administration announces $100M for school lunch programs

The Trump administration has announced an investment of over $100 million into school lunch initiatives as part of its ‘Make America Healthy Again’ agenda. The funding, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), aims to improve nutrition quality and infrastructure in schools nationwide.

The USDA will allocate $50 million toward school cafeteria infrastructure, including upgrades to stoves, refrigerators, and freezers, building upon a previous $20 million pilot program. Additionally, $25 million is designated for school districts to incorporate locally sourced foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and proteins, into their meal programs.

HHS will provide more than $30 million for research to support the implementation of the administration’s new Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These guidelines, which remain in effect until 2030, focus on reducing added sugars and ultra-processed foods while promoting scratch cooking and higher protein intake to combat chronic diseases like obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
