Trump administration includes 57 officials with assets over $100 million
A report by the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen reveals that President Donald Trump has appointed 57 officials to his administration with personal assets of at least $100 million. This figure is more than four times the combined total of ultra-wealthy appointees from the previous three administrations of George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden.
The 57 individuals include 17 ambassadors and 40 senior executive branch officials. Within the Cabinet, eight of the 23 members meet this wealth threshold, including billionaires such as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Education Secretary Linda McMahon. Other notable wealthy appointees include Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg, Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Public Citizen and critics, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, have raised concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest when individuals with extreme wealth oversee federal institutions. Trump has characterized his preference for appointing the ultra-wealthy as a deference to financial success.
