Trump administration bans CNN and Politico from White House access
The Trump administration has revoked White House access for several media organizations, including CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. The administration cited concerns regarding 'fake news' and national security as justification for the move. In response, these outlets and others, including ABC, CBS, and NBC, have limited their coverage of the President and are pursuing legal action alleging violations of the First Amendment.
In a notable exception to the ban, Melania Trump's office granted accreditation to CNN reporter Betsy Klein for a ‘Fostering the Future Together’ event in New York held during the UN General Assembly. This occurred despite Secret Service agents having previously denied the reporter access to White House grounds.
Reports suggest the decision to ban certain outlets may have been influenced by White House Executive Assistant Natalie Harp, following presentations of unfavorable coverage.
