Trump administration delays follow‑up on China summit trade promises

Business leaders and industry groups are still waiting for details on promises made at a recent China summit attended by President Donald Trump. The White House said a new "board of trade" would help reduce U.S.–China tariffs, but the plan is still being ironed out.

Industry executives, including Ed Brzytwa of the Consumer Technology Association, say they do not yet know which products will benefit from reduced tariffs. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has offered no clear guidance, and Chinese officials have not provided specifics either. Former senior trade negotiator Wendy Cutler noted that President Trump has about three and a half months to implement the agreement before Chinese President Xi Jinping’s expected September visit to Washington, adding that there will be pressure to show progress.

An anonymous White House official said further details will be released later and that the administration aims to engage more closely with the business community on the historic policy intended to better manage U.S.–China trade.
