Trump administration faces ICE leadership friction and profiling allegations

The Trump administration is facing internal friction regarding leadership at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Officials within the Department of Homeland Security have expressed dissatisfaction with the nomination of Lance Schroyer to lead the agency. Some officials have called for the administration to ‘leave us alone’ regarding agency operations, while others expressed preference for acting director Dave Venturella.

Schroyer’s nomination is currently stalled in the Senate as Chair Rand Paul requests information regarding investigations into the deaths of two American citizens involving ICE. Critics of the nomination, including immigration hawks, have noted that Schroyer lacks a significant record in deportation enforcement.

Separately, border czar Tom Homan has denied allegations of racial profiling amid the administration’s mass deportation agenda. Responding to concerns regarding the potential for profiling, Homan described himself as an ‘equal opportunity deporter,’ stating that enforcement actions are based on probable cause and legal status rather than skin color. This follows a Supreme Court decision that allowed immigration officers to consider certain factors, such as ethnicity or language, as grounds for stops.
