A federal judge has ordered the restoration of White House press access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico after President Donald Trump’s administration banned the outlets from the complex. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order, finding that the news organizations were likely to succeed in their argument that their access was revoked without adequate due process.

The ban, which the administration justified by citing allegedly false or negative reporting, included the confiscation of press credentials by the Secret Service. The legal battle intensified when the White House also prevented CNN from traveling on Air Force One during a presidential trip to Tennessee, instead designating the conservative outlet Real America’s Voice for the television pool.

In a show of solidarity, other major networks including ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC initially refused to provide coverage during the first two days of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the U.S. to protest the exclusion. While access has been partially restored, the broader legal challenge regarding First Amendment violations remains ongoing.
