Trump administration highlights cybercrime combat and DOJ shifts

President Donald Trump, Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin participated in a roundtable to promote federal efforts against transnational cybercrime. The administration highlighted directives from March and August aimed at dismantling criminal networks and recovering stolen funds. Federal authorities reported preventing at least $1.6 billion in potential losses this year and freezing nearly $1 billion in cryptocurrency linked to overseas scammers.

Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed the relationship between the Department of Justice and the White House, stating that he works “for President Trump” and challenging the notion of institutional independence between the two entities.

In a separate legal development, a Department of Justice lawsuit against California regarding 20,000 suspected noncitizen voters has been reassigned. The case, which seeks a restraining order to prevent the tabulation of flagged ballots, was moved from a Trump-appointed judge to a Clinton-appointed federal judge.
