Moldovan Parliament convenes extraordinary session for EU accession
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has officially confirmed the convening of an extraordinary session, scheduled to take place from August 20 to August 26, 2026. The decision was approved by the Permanent Bureau following a request from the legislative leader, Igor Grosu.
The session's agenda features 37 projects for normative acts. Notably, 23 of these projects are directly linked to the country's commitments regarding its accession to the European Union. These legislative efforts aim to harmonize national laws with the EU acquis in several key sectors, including social protection, justice, the financial market, environmental protection, infrastructure, mass media, postal communications, and road safety.
In addition to EU-related alignment, the session will address domestic legislative strengthening. Proposed items for second reading include the Code regarding the organization and functioning of Parliament, amendments to the Electoral Code, and projects concerning the recognition and enforcement of foreign civil or commercial judgments. Other topics include the digitalization of judicial procedures, public participation in decision-making, and regulations regarding arbitration and the reparation of damages caused by unlawful acts in criminal and contravention proceedings. Plenary sessions are specifically scheduled for August 24 and 25.
