Trump Administration Moves to End Workplace Demographic Data Collection and Federal DEI Hiring Rules
On July 23 the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) proposed eliminating the EEO‑1 report and five related workforce reports that have required large private employers to disclose the race, ethnicity and sex of their employees for nearly six decades. The rule would also stop similar data collection for unions, state and local governments, schools and other institutions, effectively removing a key source of evidence on workplace discrimination.
In a separate action, the administration withdrew the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), ending the federal hiring guidelines that encouraged race‑conscious hiring. The new rule, set to be finalized within 60 days, is part of a broader effort to dismantle Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) measures across the federal government, following earlier executive orders and court rulings.
