Trump administration pressures Walmart and other retailers to cut beef prices

Trump highlighted the cuts on Truth Social, writing, “Great news! … Walmart will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request… dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15 percent.” The move was framed as a cost‑of‑living win for consumers and a political boost ahead of the November midterm elections, as many Americans report difficulty affording groceries. Critics note the discount merely restores prices to levels seen last summer and that beef remains about 50 % higher than pre‑COVID levels, amid broader inflation pressures from tariffs, fuel price spikes and supply‑chain disruptions caused by the war with Iran.
