Trump administration records surge in ICE arrests and revives secret deportation court

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency arrested a record 43,138 migrants in June, raising the total detainee count to 65,765. Daily arrests peaked at 1,474 in the first 11 days of July, still short of the Trump administration’s goal of 2,000 per day. Since the administration took office in January 2025, it reports nearly 600,000 deportations.

In a separate move, the Justice Department invoked the Foreign Terrorist Removal Court (ATRC) for the first time in 30 years, filing a secret request to deport an individual deemed a “foreign terrorist.” The case was heard in Washington without public disclosure of the person’s identity, sparking legal concerns about due‑process and constitutional violations.
