Trump administration releases final plans for 250-foot triumphal arch
The Trump administration has released final plans for a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch, which the National Capital Planning Commission describes as a ‘ceremonial gateway’ to the nation’s capital.
Notably, the official documents omit several military features previously suggested by President Trump, such as drone storage, sniper posts, and ammunition caches. While the current plans do not explicitly reflect a national security purpose, a spokesperson for the Interior Department stated that the design remains capable of accommodating the security functions the President had previously highlighted.
The proposed structure would be located in a traffic circle connecting Washington, D.C., to Virginia, offering views of Arlington National Cemetery. The project faces opposition from preservationists concerned about landmark sightlines and veterans who argue the tower would disrupt the solemnity of cemetery funerals.
