Trump administration reportedly considers renaming Ford's Theatre

Reports indicate that officials within the Donald Trump administration have discussed a list of government properties that could be renamed to honor the president. Among the locations reportedly under consideration is Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., the historic site where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.

While administration officials have circulated lists of potential candidates for renaming, the White House and the Interior Department have denied that such a plan is currently being considered. A White House spokesperson described the reports as ‘completely false,’ and the Interior Department issued a similar denial.

Renaming the site could face significant legal challenges, as Ford's Theatre National Historic Site was formally established by an act of Congress in 1970. Any formal change to the federally designated name would likely require congressional approval. The site is currently co-managed by the National Park Service and the Ford's Theatre Society.
