Donald Trump blames refinery disruptions for rising US gasoline prices

Donald Trump has attributed rising gasoline prices in the United States to Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries and refinery closures in Democratic-led states like California. Speaking via Truth Social, Trump argued that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer the primary driver of fuel costs because oil exports from the Middle East have returned to near pre-war levels.

While Trump points to domestic and Ukrainian actions, analysts note that global energy markets remain volatile due to the conflict in the Middle East. However, the impact of Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure is significant; the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claims that over 51 percent of Russia's oil refining capacity has been disabled. This has contributed to fuel shortages in Russia and impacted global diesel supplies.

In response to ongoing Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would intensify its attacks on Russian oil refineries to deplete the country's military-economic potential.
