Trump Administration Unveils IVF Fertility Benefits Rule and Drug Discount Site

The U.S. administration announced a proposal to create a new “limited excepted benefit” category that would let employers offer standalone fertility coverage, similar to dental or vision plans. The rule would allow coverage of diagnosis, counseling, medications, IVF and related services with a combined lifetime limit of $120,000, adjusted for inflation after 2028, and would bypass many ACA requirements.

At the same time, the government launched the TrumpRx website, a federal platform offering steep discounts on key IVF drugs such as Gonal‑F, Cetrotide and Ovidrel—cutting prices by up to 83 percent and saving patients over $2,000 per treatment cycle. The initiative was driven by concerns after the Alabama Supreme Court classified frozen embryos as children, prompting clinics to halt services. Officials including Dr. Mehmet Oz and Sen. Katie Britt highlighted the move as a response to the U.S. fertility‑rate decline, describing it as a “fertility crisis.”

The proposals aim to make IVF more affordable, broaden employer‑provided fertility benefits, and address demographic challenges without mandating coverage, pending a 60‑day public comment period.
