Trump administration withholds 2024 election meddling report

The Trump administration is facing criticism for withholding a critical intelligence assessment regarding foreign meddling in the 2024 election, despite congressional requirements for its release. While the White House has declassified various documents that supporters claim reveal deep-state coverups, it has omitted the holistic report detailing foreign attempts to influence voters and sow division during the 2024 presidential contest.

This selective declassification follows a pattern of ignoring bipartisan pressure from Congress. In contrast, the 2020 version of the assessment, released during the Biden administration, provided details on interference from Russia, Iran, and China. Former intelligence officials have expressed concern that the current administration is weaponizing the classification system to serve political agendas, bypassing the traditional balancing tests used to determine what information serves the public interest.
