Trump and Putin face doubts over Alaska peace deal as Ukraine war continues

Russian Kremlin advisers say the United States is unable to fulfil the peace agreement discussed by Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin during their August meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. Jurij Ušakov told TASS that “one side remains committed to the agreements reached in Anchorage, while the other shows an inability to implement them.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the G7 summit in Evian, France, reaffirmed talks with the U.S. about ending the conflict, noting recent Ukrainian advances that have reclaimed territory held by Russian forces. The war remains active, with Ukrainian forces conducting drone strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, leading to fuel shortages in occupied Crimea where petrol sales have been limited to government use.

Both sides continue to blame each other for stalled progress, and Western analysts caution that a durable peace remains distant as fighting persists along the front lines.
