Trump and Starmer discuss Ukraine, West Asia, and energy
U.S. President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone consultation to discuss the war in Ukraine, developments in West Asia, and bilateral relations. During the call, Starmer emphasized the necessity of Ukraine having full access to Starlink satellite technology to combat Russian forces. He also expressed support for Trump’s efforts to bring Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, with both leaders agreeing to cooperate with international partners to end the conflict.
The leaders also addressed energy cooperation, specifically regarding nuclear energy, and discussed the controversial ‘Sea Lion’ project involving deep-water offshore oil development north of the Falkland Islands. Starmer raised concerns regarding the economic implications of Argentina’s actions concerning the disputed territory.
In a separate but related development regarding technical capabilities in Ukraine, President Trump reportedly contacted Elon Musk to request the removal of speed restrictions on the military version of Starlink. These limitations had rendered Ukrainian drones less effective against Russian attacks. Trump indicated that the issue was being addressed, while U.S. officials noted the complexities of private companies operating within active conflict zones.
