Trump and Xi extend trade truce amid reports of Chinese shipments to Iran
During a high-profile meeting in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to extend the current trade war truce by two months. While the extension provides temporary relief for businesses, significant disputes remain regarding tariffs, technology access, and Chinese agricultural purchases.
Investigations by The Wall Street Journal have revealed that between January and June, approximately 1,300 shipments of parts were sent from China to Iran's Ministry of Defense. These components, which have both civilian and military applications, were identified through Iranian customs data. This discovery complicates U.S. efforts to economically isolate Iran.
Separately, in Saint Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the International Forum of United Cultures. He claimed that the rights of Russian-speakers in the Baltic states are being violated and stated that Russia is not preparing military actions against Europe. He also expressed approval of the diplomatic engagement between the United States and China.
