Trump announces Medicare payments and $5,000 citizen dividend

Donald Trump has announced several financial measures ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. He promised a one-time $90 payment to more than 20 million Medicare beneficiaries to assist with Medicare Part B premiums. These funds are expected to come from the Medicare Improvement Fund. The payments exclude individuals whose premiums are covered by Medicaid or those subject to income-related premium adjustments (IRMAA).

Additionally, Trump reiterated his proposal for a 'Trump Dividend,' which would provide a $5,000 payment to every adult U.S. citizen. This proposal is contingent upon the Republican Party maintaining control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump suggested this dividend could be funded through tariff revenues. Experts estimate the cost of such a program would be approximately $1.2 trillion, a move that would require Congressional approval and could impact the national deficit and inflation.
