Ukraine to receive Patriot missile production licenses, Zelenskyy says
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that U.S. President Donald Trump has made a “final decision” to grant Ukraine licenses for the domestic production of Patriot interceptor missiles.
Zelenskyy stated the assurance was provided during a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. This move aims to reduce Ukraine's reliance on foreign supplies of the advanced air-defense system, which is critical for countering Russian ballistic missile attacks.
Ukraine is currently facing an acute shortage of Patriot interceptors. Zelenskyy noted that the country requires 5 percent of the United States' Patriot interceptor stock to endure the winter and 10 percent to fully neutralize Russia's ballistic projectiles. While the decision marks a shift from previous uncertainty, the White House has not yet independently confirmed the announcement.
