Trump crypto earnings face scrutiny amid administration scam crackdown
President Donald Trump is facing renewed scrutiny regarding his family’s cryptocurrency earnings as his administration prepares to launch a crackdown on fraudulent digital asset schemes. A new campaign advertisement from Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) titled “Grifting” accuses Trump of using public office for personal gain, specifically citing claims that he earned significant sums from memecoins.
Financial disclosures for 2025 show that CIC Digital LLC, owned by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, recorded over $635 million in Celebration Coins licensing royalties. While Trump has defended his crypto activities as legal, a Reuters investigation estimated that Trump and his sons gained at least $2.3 billion from their primary crypto ventures, noting that investors in those ventures collectively lost approximately $2.3 billion.
Simultaneously, the Trump administration is focusing on combating online impersonation and foreign criminal networks targeting Americans with fraudulent investments. This initiative follows a reported 17% increase in FBI complaints regarding internet scams. The White House has defended the administration’s actions, stating they are taken in the best interest of the American people.
