Donald Trump faces record-low approval ratings ahead of midterms

President Donald Trump is facing record-low approval ratings as the November midterm elections approach. Recent polling from Reuters/Ipsos indicates his approval stands at 32%, a significant decline from 47% at the start of his second term in January 2025. This downturn is largely attributed to economic concerns, specifically high inflation and the cost of living, which many voters link to the administration's policies and the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Economic issues are a primary driver of voter dissatisfaction. An AP-NORC poll found that only 17% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the cost of living, while 65% blame his policies for high prices. Additionally, the cost of living is cited as the top concern for voters across the political spectrum.

Political shifts are also evident in party identification. Gallup data shows that 50% of Americans now identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, compared to 39% who identify as Republicans or lean Republican. This 11-point gap is the largest Democratic advantage recorded by Gallup since 2009. Demographic shifts are also notable, with Hispanic voter support for Trump waning; only 24% of Hispanic Americans approve of his performance, and 52% plan to vote for Democrats in the upcoming midterms.
