Trump family earns $500 million from crypto token sale

A cryptocurrency deal announced in August 2025 gave the Trump family roughly $500 million. The family’s company, World Liberty Financial, sold $1.5 billion of WLFI tokens to Alt5 Sigma, which renamed itself AI Financial Corp (NASDAQ: AIFC). Under the terms, the Trumps receive 75 % of the token‑sale proceeds.

After the deal, AI Financial’s share price plunged from $8.97 to $0.66, a loss of about 93 %, and the company warned investors of a possible Nasdaq delisting. The firm has undergone three CEO changes and multiple auditor turnovers, recorded a $348 million hit from the falling token value, and saw its WLFI token price drop about 72 % to 5.7 cents.

A Reuters investigation cited that more than a million investors lost around $2.3 billion, while the Trump family benefited from the brand‑driven crypto projects, including the $TRUMP meme coin and other ventures such as American Bitcoin and AI Financial Corp.
