Trump family nets $500 million from crypto token sale as investors suffer massive losses
The Trump family, through a partnership announced on the Nasdaq in August 2025, received roughly $500 million from the sale of World Liberty Financial (WLFI) crypto tokens. The transaction involved Alt5 Sigma, later renamed AI Financial Corp., which purchased $1.5 billion worth of tokens and granted the family a 75% share of the proceeds.
Investors in the token scheme suffered severe losses as WLFI tokens fell by about 87% by April 2026, and AI Financial’s share price plunged more than 90%, prompting a risk of delisting from Nasdaq. Major hedge funds such as Point72 and ExodusPoint reported multi‑million‑dollar write‑downs, while the Hong Kong‑based Soul Ventures also recorded significant losses. The deal has drawn attention from U.S. regulators questioning potential conflicts of interest and the transparency of the Trump family’s crypto ventures.
