Trump family’s cryptocurrency holdings suffer steep losses
Donald Trump’s investment portfolio, which rose to about $858 million in 2025 and generated roughly $2.2 billion in income—most of it from cryptocurrency projects—has come under scrutiny as the former president’s family expands its crypto ventures. In the same period, his son Eric Trump’s co‑founded company American Bitcoin saw its shares tumble more than 95 percent after a Nasdaq debut in September 2025. Bloomberg estimates that Eric Trump’s stake lost over $600 million, and the firm reported an operating loss of $118.2 million and a net loss of $81.8 million for the first quarter of 2026. The company, which mines and holds Bitcoin, saw its stock trade below $6 after a 1‑for‑15 reverse split, while the price of Bitcoin hovered around $64,000 in July 2026. The downturn highlights the volatility of the Trump family’s crypto‑related investments despite earlier gains.
