Trump intensifies push for SAVE America voter ID bill after LA mayoral ballot delay
President Donald Trump renewed his call for the SAVE America Act, a voter‑identification bill requiring photo ID, proof of citizenship and regular voter‑roll purges, after late‑arriving mail‑in ballots changed the outcome of the Los Angeles mayoral primary. The delayed ballots shifted second place from Republican Spencer Pratt to Democrat Nithya Raman, eliminating Pratt from the runoff with incumbent Mayor Karen Bass.
Senator Rick Scott echoed Trump's criticism, arguing the episode shows the need for the legislation. The bill recently received a Senate floor vote but failed to secure the 60‑vote threshold, losing 48‑50. Scott and other Republican senators continue to promote the measure, citing polling that claims over 80% of Americans support voter ID requirements.
