Trump invokes Defense Production Act to boost US munitions supply

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a June 11 memorandum invoking the Defense Production Act to address shortfalls in weapons manufacturing and supply‑chain bottlenecks. The memo cites limited production capacity, fragile supply lines, long‑lead dependencies and bottlenecks in critical components such as solid‑rocket motors, igniters and guidance systems. It authorises the Defense Secretary to seek voluntary agreements with private industry to shore up the defense industrial base and ensure readiness for legacy and modernization programs. The announcement followed a bilateral meeting with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed at the G7 summit in Evian‑les‑Bains, France.

The move is aimed at strengthening U.S. defense production capabilities and reducing reliance on vulnerable supply chains.
