Trump IRS Settlement Records Missing at DOJ Civil Division
The Department of Justice’s Civil Division told watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) that it has no records of the settlement in the Trump v. IRS case that created a $1.8 billion anti‑weaponization fund. CREW filed a Freedom of Information request for documents related to the settlement and was told, as the agency put it, "DOJ's Civil Division claims to have no record of so much as being notified about Trump's case."
CREW, which is litigating the lawsuit, said the lack of any paper trail is unprecedented for a settlement of this magnitude and highlighted the unusual circumstances of a sitting president suing and settling with his own administration. The watchdog is challenging the lawsuit in court, raising questions about the transparency and legality of the fund’s creation.
