Trump mandates shift from ‘AI’ to ‘Super Intelligence’ in federal communications

President Donald Trump has issued an executive order mandating that all federal agencies replace the terms ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’ with ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in official communications, reports, and websites. The administration argues that the term ‘artificial’ implies the technology is fake, whereas ‘superintelligence’ is a more accurate descriptor. Trump has further stated on Truth Social that the White House considers anyone who persists in using the old terminology to be an ‘enemy.’

To coordinate this transition, the administration announced the formation of the Super Intelligence Force (SIF), which will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. The move is intended to bolster the perception of U.S. technological leadership in the global race against China.

Major technology companies have begun to adapt to the new terminology. Elon Musk announced that SpaceX’s XAI division will rebrand to SpaceXSI, and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff rebranded the company’s AIforce platform to SIforce. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also adopted the term in recent communications. However, some industry leaders and researchers have expressed skepticism, noting that the shift is largely semantic and could potentially dilute scientific definitions of superintelligence.
