Trump makes inaugural flight on Qatar‑gifted Air Force One
President Donald Trump boarded the newly delivered Air Force One on July 1, 2026, marking its first operational flight. The aircraft, a heavily modified Boeing 747‑8 (VC‑25B) valued at about $400 million, was a gift from Qatar that arrived at Andrews Air Force Base on June 19 and underwent extensive testing before being cleared for presidential use.
Trump flew the plane to North Dakota for the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, accompanied by senior White House staff, his sons Eric and Donald Jr., and other officials. Interior photographs released by the White House showed a luxurious cabin with wood paneling, a conference area, and a library, while the exterior featured red, white, dark‑blue and gold colours chosen by the president. The aircraft is intended as a temporary solution, remaining in service until two new, purpose‑built presidential jets are delivered, expected around 2028.
The Qatar donation has attracted criticism over ethical and security concerns, but officials say the plane meets all safety and communication requirements for presidential travel.
