Donald Trump earns $636 million from memecoin as nearly 1 million investors lose $3.8 billion
President Donald Trump’s official memecoin ($TRUMP) was launched three days before his 2025 inauguration. The token peaked at $75.35 and later fell to about $1.7, a decline of roughly 97‑98%.
Blockchain analytics by Nansen show that 988,905 wallets – about two‑thirds of the 1.48 million buyers – were in the red by the end of June, totalling an estimated $3.8 billion in losses. A smaller group of early purchasers (around 492,000 wallets) realised roughly $40 billion in gains.
In his 2025 financial disclosure, Trump reported $636 million in income from the $TRUMP token, accounting for almost half of the $1.4 billion he earned from crypto‑related activities last year. The White House defended the earnings, saying the president’s actions serve American interests, while critics argue the arrangement raises serious conflict‑of‑interest concerns.
