Trump pardon process under scrutiny following corruption allegations

A 60 Minutes investigation has alleged the existence of a lucrative marketplace for securing presidential pardons from Donald Trump. The report identifies two Trump loyalists, Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl, as “pardon brokers” who reportedly solicited money from individuals seeking clemency.

According to the reporting, approximately 92% of Trump’s pardons, including those for January 6th insurrectionists, did not involve the standard Department of Justice review process. The investigation suggests that many pardons were granted to convicted felons, including those involved in financial fraud, following significant political donations or business deals.

In one instance, rapper Boosie Badazz claimed the brokers took $600,000 from him in hopes of a pardon, but only returned roughly half the funds without securing the deal. The reports highlight a pattern where clemency has been extended to individuals convicted of healthcare and nursing home fraud, potentially returning millions of dollars in owed restitution to the convicted.
