Trump pushes $350 bn defense budget; Congress approves $70 bn immigration funding
President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to urge Congress to adopt a $350 billion defense spending plan called “Recon 3.0”. The proposal envisions expanding U.S. military capabilities, including new missile‑defense systems, upgraded aircraft, a strengthened Space Force and increased production of drones and munitions, and it could pave the way for a future $1.5 trillion defense budget. The plan also bundles a set of domestic policy measures on voter identification and other issues.
Separately, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a $70 billion funding bill for immigration enforcement with a 213‑211 vote. The legislation allocates $38 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), $26 billion to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and $5 billion for contingencies. It authorizes the reopening of detention facilities, hiring of additional agents and other enforcement actions, despite Democratic opposition calling for reforms and oversight of the agencies.
