Trump linked its enactment to the SAVE America Act – a proposal requiring voter‑ID and proof of citizenship for federal elections – and urged Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster to pass it. He traveled to the Capitol for a closed‑door GOP luncheon, where tension with Senate leaders was evident. Majority Leader John Thune warned the voting bill lacks sufficient votes, while several Republican senators voiced frustration and called for unity ahead of the November midterms.
