Donald Trump immigration approval falls to 39% in new AP‑NORC poll
A new Associated Press‑NORC poll finds that only 39 % of U.S. adults approve President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration, down from 49 % at the start of his second term. About eight in ten Republicans still back his immigration policies, though that support has slipped slightly from the start of the term.
Roughly half of all U.S. adults say Trump has "gone too far" on deporting illegal immigrants, and 47 % believe he has exceeded his authority. The poll notes that at least ten deaths have occurred in ICE encounters over the past year. Respondents also view immigration as a stronger issue for Trump than the economy or the war in Iran.
Other recent surveys echo the low approval: Quinnipiac University reported 32 % approval, CNN 34 %, the Associated Press 33 % and YouGov/Economist 34 %. The consistent decline underscores the political challenges Trump faces ahead of the midterm elections.
