Trump says Qatar‑gifted Air Force One will be upgraded after security concerns
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the newly delivered Air Force One, a Boeing 747‑8 gifted by Qatar, will be sent for upgrades within about a month to address security deficiencies. He said, “It has a lot of capability, but as I understand it, in about a month or so, they’re gonna send it to have it be maxed out.”
The upgrades are expected to improve missile‑defense and other protective systems after reports indicated the aircraft lacked full defensive capabilities during a recent trip to Turkey for the NATO summit. The Air Force has maintained that the jet meets required security and communications standards, while the New York Times, which reported on the shortcomings, has faced subpoenas for its reporting.
