Trump sends Navy and Saudi Arabia ambassador nominations to Senate

President Donald Trump has submitted several key nominations to the Senate, including Hung Cao for Secretary of the Navy and Wesley Hunt for United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Hung Cao, who has served as Acting Secretary of the Navy since April, will require both House and Senate waivers to officially hold the position because he retired from naval service in 2021, falling short of the required seven-year retirement period. The White House also submitted nominations for William Toti as Under Secretary of the Navy and retired Vice Adm. Richard Breckenridge as an Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

Texas Representative Wesley Hunt has been nominated to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Hunt, a West Point graduate and former Army officer, expressed that it is the ‘honor of a lifetime’ to accept the nomination. The appointment comes during a period of heightened tension in the Middle East involving Iran and the Houthis.
