Trump signs executive order addressing alpha-gal syndrome
President Trump has signed an executive order to address alpha-gal syndrome, a tick-borne allergy that causes serious reactions to certain foods, medicines, and products containing mammal-based ingredients.
The executive order directs federal agencies to explore potential treatments and investigate labeling requirements for food and drug products. Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who has been advocating for the issue, noted that the order focuses on improving treatment options and providing clearer information for those affected.
Van Drew is also moving forward with the Alpha-gal Allergen Inclusion Act, a legislative effort intended to formally add alpha-gal to the list of major food allergens under federal law.
