Donald Trump signals possible meeting with Kim Jong Un during November Asia trip

U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated the possibility of meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his upcoming trip to Asia in November 2026. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described a potential meeting as “exciting” and noted his good relationship with Kim.

Trump’s travel itinerary includes attending the 49th ASEAN Summit in Manila, Philippines, on November 16, followed by the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, from November 17 to 19. The White House stated the trip aims to demonstrate U.S. commitment to Southeast Asian allies and advance economic and national security objectives. During the APEC summit, Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

These remarks coincide with recent North Korean military activity, including the launch of tactical ballistic missiles. In response to regional tensions, Trump has previously instructed the reduction of joint military exercises with South Korea. While a summit remains unconfirmed by either Washington or Pyongyang, the potential for renewed direct diplomacy remains a focal point of the upcoming diplomatic tour.
