Trump unveils Qatar‑gifted interim Air Force One Boeing 747

U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a converted Boeing 747‑8 that Qatar donated to the United States. The aircraft, valued at about $400 million, has been repainted in a red‑white‑navy‑blue scheme and dubbed a “flying White House.” It will serve as a bridge aircraft for presidential transport until two new Boeing‑built Air Force One jets, delayed until around 2028, become operational. The Air Force said the jet will undergo “commissioning flights,” a final series of tests before entering active service. Trump announced the plane will be used for the NATO summit in Ankara and a July 4 fly‑over of Washington, D.C. The gift has sparked ethical and legal debate, with critics arguing that accepting such a high‑value foreign gift may violate gift rules and raise conflict‑of‑interest concerns. The administration defended the acceptance, noting the aircraft will be donated to a future presidential library after Trump leaves office. Modifications for security, communications and mission support were performed by the Air Force at a cost estimated under $400 million.
