Trump warns of potential annihilation of Iran at UN

During his address to the United Nations General Assembly, President Donald Trump presented a binary choice regarding Iran, stating the United States could either reach a deal that allows the country to rebuild or “annihilate the Islamic Republic” quickly. Trump asserted that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons and suggested that Tehran may be waiting for the outcome of the upcoming US midterm elections before engaging in serious negotiations.

In response to the remarks, Iranian delegates signaled a conditional willingness to resume talks, provided the United States publicly commits to a diplomatic process and reduces military pressure.

Addressing maritime security, Trump noted that the United States Navy has been escorting oil through the Strait of Hormuz, with more oil flowing than at any point since the start of the current conflict. He thanked the UN Security Council for passing a resolution condemning Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.
