Trump warns that communism is the gravest threat to the United States

Former President Donald Trump addressed the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, declaring communism the most serious danger the nation has faced since its founding 250 years ago. He warned that communist ideology seeks to destroy religious liberty, saying it would “close your churches” and “kill your people.” Trump cited historical communist regimes—from the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc to present‑day China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam and Laos—and warned of poverty, loss of food, housing, military and law‑order under such rule.

He also referenced recent U.S. House primary elections, noting that three candidates who won their primaries were backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and labelled “communists,” not “social democrats.” The remarks were made during his first return to the Washington Hilton’s International Ballroom since the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner assassination attempt.

The speech was accompanied by a 223‑page draft report from the White House Religious Liberty Commission, which Trump said would promote “know your rights” campaigns and strengthen protections for religious practice in schools, workplaces and the military.
